Interviewing at Pico

Finding the right people to join our Pico Family is the most important part of the Recruitment Teams role. We strive to find people with the drive and ambition to join our teams and thrive in the fantastic environment we offer.

Like every company your journey with us begins with the recruitment process, please see below a step-by-step guide on how we find the best Pico People:

  1. Take a look at our current vacancies page. Is there anything that takes your fancy? Remember that although we have a high technical bar, we don’t expect you to be an expert in everything! We focus on exploring your current and potential strengths

  2. Send us your most recent CV via the vacancy advert. Our Recruitment Team will pick it up from there…

  3. Our Recruitment Team will then arrange a suitable time with you to have a chat (this normally takes around 30 minutes). We use this time to get to know you and what makes you tick, and tell you all about Pico, the role, and our benefits

  4. If you are a suitable candidate, you will be invited to a virtual interview with the Hiring Manager (this normally takes 30-60 minutes) to discuss the role further, learn about team dynamics, and have a general chat about Pico and our culture. This will also give you the opportunity to ask your potential new Manager any further questions

  5. If you are successful at the virtual interview you will be invited to one of our locations for a face to face interview (this normally takes around 90 minutes depending on the role). You will meet our team members, have a tour of the building, and get a feel for our amazing company firsthand! Our face to face interviews involve a few different sections; Company fit, role specifics, and a technical test (if applicable). The technical tests vary by specialism - for example, if you have applied for a Software Development role, you may be asked to complete a coding exercise

  6. The next step, if you are successful, is that you will be offered the role! The Recruitment Team will discuss the offer process with you and will cover all of the details about you becoming our newest Pico person. You’ll receive your offer paperwork from the HR team and we will start to make sure everything is ready for you on your first day.

You will have made the brilliant decision to be working within a great company that focuses on its employees, making sure everyone can be themselves whilst putting family and wellbeing first. If you think this sounds too good to be true, why not watch our video to find out more.

It’s our aim to make each stage full of conversation, from both our assessors and you, the candidate. We also aim to complete the process in a timely manner, removing the dreaded waiting element that typically comes with interview processes.

Overall, we want your interview experience to be a great one, no matter the outcome. Our Recruitment Team is on hand to offer constructive feedback to help you with your journey to finding the perfect role for you!

If you are wanting to work for a company where work doesn't feel like work, where you are encouraged to be yourself, and where you will have a rewarding career… make sure you take a look at our current vacancies page.

What our Pico People say about us

With over 15 years of working for Pico, they have been nothing but a joy to work for. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly team environment help colleagues further their careers while feeling fully supported when achieving working milestones. Pico recognises personal career development and is happy to support employees further their skills through internal and external training. This has helped me grow my role’s responsibilities whilst keeping the work technologically challenging and interesting throughout.

Guy
Hardware Development Engineer

Every day here is a challenge and I like challenges! These challenges make you master your engineering skills and think outside the box. There are no defined technologies or tools - you choose them. That means you can pick the most innovative and creative ones and play with them to make the product. That’s what I like about Pico it does not constrain but encourage to improve.

Pati
Software Engineer

For me, it is all about the people. We treat everyone as an individual. We support our people, and we care about our people. Also, the fact that we are successful and we make fantastic products.

Jane
Chief Operating Officer

It's got to be the people and variety for me. The 'can do' attitude is infectious.

Ian
Hardware Development Manager

I like the flexi time, being able to start and finish when you want works well (as long as you're working 10 am - 3 pm core hours). The large variety of work there is for a technician, from populating and routing PCBs, to 3D printing, to fault finding and making jigs. I also like the people I work with, friendly and supportive. If you need help, people are happy to give it.

Rachel
Electronics Technician

I feel very lucky to be part of the Pico Family. We have celebrated some wonderful milestones since I joined – we were voted 75th Best Company to work for in the East of England in 2021, we gained our second Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2022 and we were voted 25th Best Company to work for in 2022! I love the family attitude here at Pico, everyone matters, and everyone’s opinion is heard. We are lucky enough to have a Mental Health First Aid team and Men’s Health Champions whom we can turn to for support. We also now have a great gym which we can use on site and above all that… we have eaten lots and lots of cake and enjoyed some wonderful food vans provided by Pico! I could go on about the great things at Pico… so come on and join the family and see what we are all about!

Holly
Sales Order Administrator

Variety of work, the family ethos, and work/life balance.

Martyn
Technical Support Manager

Your role is what you make it, there is always room for skills development and career progression.

Steve
Product Engineering Manager

It is a pleasure to work in a growing company like Pico, where everyone cares for others' well-being. Pico is great not just because of all the benefits we get here like flexibility, bonuses, events, cakes of course, but I can see opportunities to grow with the company.

Ruta
Buyer

From my first contact with Pico, it was clear that this company had a very supportive and positive environment in which to work – accepting the job was a very easy decision! Pico is clearly a forward thinking, ambitious, and fantastically well run company - I felt privileged to be given the opportunity to have a career here. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time since joining and the teamwork ethos encourages me to work to my potential and have the confidence to tackle challenges head on.
